Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why should I consider buying a scooter?

A. Scooters are an awesome source of transportation! They are much cheaper to own and operate than a motorcycle or even a car! From purchase price, to insurance cost, gas mileage and cost to fill up, and to periodic maintenance and repair cost scooters are by far the least expensive motor vehicles to own! The savings that you will get with a scooter vs any other type of motor vehicle will have the scooter paying for itself!

Q. Okay, you've convinced me to buy a scooter. Now why should I buy from Wild Hogs vs an online wholesaler?

A. There are almost too many reasons to list! But here are a few of the best reasons to buy from us and join the Wild Hogs family!

1) Quality - The largest thing you will notice when purchasing online vs through us is the quality difference in both the product that you receive and the service that you get. When you buy online your vehicle will be shipped to your house in crate unassembled. You will be responsible to put it together, get it running, and make any adjustments that are needed. It seems easy, but you would not believe how many online scooters come through our service department because they were not put together correctly or would not run well. It might cost a little more to get a quality product from us that is assembled, test ridden, and warrantied, but those few extra bucks are well worth it to get a product that was assembled CORRECTLY and then test ridden and tuned by qualified professionals.

2) Value and Pricing - We try very hard to give you the best possible value with your scooter purchase. We have ZERO dealer fees or hidden fees that are tacked onto the back of your purchase contract. There are three things that go into the cost of buying your scooter from us, the scooter price (this is the $$ that we get), the sales tax (6.5%-7% of the purchase price, this goes to the state of FL), and the DMV tag & title (this is also goes to the state and allows us to issue you a license plate and registration as a registered dealer).

3) Purchase Process - We have been in business for over a decade and hate to waste your time or ours. We have worked very hard to streamline the purchase process of your dream scooter. Our trained sales professionals will have you riding out on your brand new ride in absolutely no time, while also making sure that every possible question you can think of has been answered and more! We can have you in and out faster than you would be able to place the scooter you would like to order online in your cart and then take the time to assemble it and get it ready to ride.

4) Post Purchase Support - We are very proud of our post purchase support and warranties. We are one of, if not the only, dealers to cover LABOR in the warranty policy that is issued with almost all of our new inventory. Over time we have found that the common industry issued warranties are scams and only cover internal lubricated motor parts, which allows the dealer to charge ridiculous costs in labor to recoup any parts that they "warranty". We do not believe in that, we believe that when you purchase a vehicle from us that you should receive a running and reliable vehicle! This means that any defects (such as manufacturer's defects) that you are not in control of will be COMPLETELY covered by us with both PARTS and LABOR. You will not have to email us in hopes of getting an eventual response from an online store, you can call us or visit us in person for ANYTHING that you might need. We are always happy to help!

4) Family - We are a brick and motor family owned company with four locations in Central Florida. Everyone that works with us are either family, friends, or customers turned employees! We would love to welcome you to the ever growing Wild Hogs Family!

Q. Do I have to have a Driver's License to ride a scooter?

A. Yes. You are required to posses a current regular Class E license for scooters that are 49-50cc and anything that is street legal in Florida. If it gets a license plate it is street legal.

If 50cc or less, these vehicles are not motorcycles by driver license law definition, S. 322.01(26), F.S., so a motorcycle endorsement is not required per S. 322.03(4), F.S..

However, to operate them on streets and roadways, you must be at least 16 years old and hold at least a regular operator (Class E) or “Motorcycle Only" driver license.

Even though these vehicles are 50cc or less, they still fall under the driver license law definition of “Motor Vehicle" and a driver license is required to operate a “motor vehicle.") SS.322.03(1), 322.01(26) and 322.05(1), F.S.

Q. What if I do not have a Florida Driver's License?

A. A Florida driver's license is not necessary if you are from out of state or out of country and temporarily residing in Florida.

1) Out of state residents will be required to provide the driver's license from the state they are from so that we can take a copy and provide it to the Department of Motor Vehicles. This driver's license copy must be valid and not expired.

2) Anyone intending to purchase a motor vehicle that is not a resident of the United States will be required to produce the passport issued by the country that they are a citizen of so that we can take a copy and provide it to the Department of Motor Vehicles. This driver's license copy must be valid and not expired.

Q. Do I need a motorcycle endorsement if its over 50cc?

A. Yes. A motorcycle endorsement is required for scooters/mopeds over 50cc.

NEW LAWS FOR MOTORCYCLE LICENSURE TOOK EFFECT JULY 1, 2008!

Basic rider course now required for all motorcycle endorsements starting July 1 2008, new motorcyclists must take and pass the Basic Rider Course through the Florida Rider Trainer Program before they can have the motorcycle endorsement added to their license, per Section 322.12(5)(a)., Florida Statutes.

Q. Can I still buy a scooter without a motorcycle endorsement?

A. You are not required to have the motorcycle endorsement to purchase a scooter from us, but you are still required to have it to RIDE any scooter that was bought from us and is bigger than 50cc. This means that you will not legally be able to ride any scooter that is larger than 50cc off the lot until you possess a motorcycle endorsement on your license. If the scooter you are purchasing is paid for we would be happy to hold the scooter you are purchasing for a few weeks until you can complete the basic rider course and get the endorsement added to your license. We would also be very happy to recommend multiple places for you to take your basic rider course if you do not already have it scheduled.

Q. Do I have to wear a helmet?

A. Yes. In some cases helmets are required.

Anyone under 16 years of age must wear a Department approved motorcycle helmet and may only ride as a passenger on any motorcycle, moped, motor-driven cycle regardless of engine size.

Anyone 16 years of age but less than 21 years of age must wear a Department approved helmet when operating or riding upon a motorcycle. Per s. 316.211F.S.

Persons at least 21 years of age may ride a motorcycle without a helmet if they can show proof of medical insurance coverage in the amounts of at least $10,000.00 that will pay for injuries they may incur in a motorcycle crash.

A separate motorcycle medical insurance policy card or other forms of health insurance coverage will suffice, such as employee group or private health insurance cards. Law enforcement officers shall make final determination if proof of insurance is acceptable.

A. Yes. Some form of Protective Eyewear is required.

Contact lenses are not acceptable. Each device must be in good repair, free of sharp edges or projections and made of material suitable for ophthalmic use.

It shall be free from cracks, waves, bubbles or any other defect which may impair its normal visibility. Any tinted device should not impair the wearer's ability to see color and shall not be used at night.
